Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure to remove excess muscle, fat, skin, and other tissues from the eyelids. The overall goal of blepharoplasty in Toledo is to improve the appearance around the eyes. While Toledo, Ohio patients often choose eyelid surgery for purely cosmetic reasons, such as the reduction of puffiness, under-eye bags, and eye wrinkles, it is also a popular procedure for those who have impeded vision due to sagging skin on the upper eyelids.

Is Eyelid Surgery Right for Me?
While most patients undergoing eyelid surgery in Toledo or Detroit are over the age of 35, it may also be performed on younger patients, particularly in the case of vision interference or when heredity has resulted in overly large under-eye bags or drooping eyelids. Both men and women choose this procedure to achieve a youthful and well-rested facial appearance.
Although most adults can undergo blepharoplasty, a few medical conditions may increase the risk of complications. These include:
- Uncontrolled diabetes
- Cardiovascular disease
- High blood pressure
- Glaucoma

Eyelid Surgery PricesEyelid surgery costs can range widely depending on whether the procedure is performed on the lower eyelids, the upper eyelids, or both sets. Often, it is less expensive to have both the upper and lower eyelids treated during the same session than having two separate surgeries on the eyelids.
Procedure DetailsIn Toledo, eyelid surgery typically takes one to three hours and is performed under local anesthesia. The first step is the creation of incisions in natural skin folds located either above or below the eye. If one of the goals of the eyelid surgery is to reduce the appearance of "crow's feet" wrinkles, these incisions may continue past the corners of the eyes so that the surgeon can access this tissue. In some cases, the excess tissue in the lower eyelid can be removed from behind the eyelid, rather than through an incision created for this purpose.
Now, your eyelid surgeon gently removes small areas of fat and other excess tissues from the area of the eyelids. Excess muscle or skin may be trimmed away to improve the appearance of the eye area. Once the targeted tissues have been removed or recontoured, the incision is closed using surgical tape or small sutures.
Recovery After Eyelid SurgeryAfter eyelid surgery, the doctor will instruct you to use antiseptic ointment or eyedrops, which prevents the eyes from becoming dry. Paper tape will be used to support the eyelids in their new position. Gauze may also be used for a few days after your eyelid procedure. Common side effects include eyes that are watery or dry, as well as bruising and swelling around the eye area. You may also experience double vision, blurred vision, or sensitivity to light. Most of these side effects will subside within a week, during which time it is important to keep the head elevated while sleeping, and avoid strenuous activities.
