Dermabrasion is controlled surgical scraping which softens sharp edges of surface irregularities and is used most often in treating scars from accidents and acne. It can also be used to smooth out wrinkles, especially "lipstick lines" around the mouth. It is sometimes used in conjunction with other procedures such as facelifts and chemical peels. The skin takes about ten days to heal and stays pink for a few months.
