Is Male Breast Reduction Right for Me?
If you are a healthy male with fairly elastic skin and you are suffering from gynecomastia, you are mostly likely a suitable candidate for a male breast reduction. However, if you are overweight or obese, you may be advised to lose weight through diet and exercise before resorting to surgery. Most importantly, your breast development should be stabilized before considering male breast reduction surgery.
In addition, you may not be an appropriate candidate for this surgery if your enlarged breasts are due to any of the following:
• Steroids
• Certain medications
• Other drugs

Procedure Details
Male breast reduction procedures will vary depending on the consistency of the excess tissue of each patient. For example, if your breasts are mostly made up of glandular tissue, your surgeon will excise this tissue with a scalpel. If they are composed mostly of fatty tissue, your surgeon will use liposuction to help remove it.
Your surgeon will make a small incision on the edge of the nipple or in the underarm area. He will then cut the excess fat, skin and tissue away before closing the incision and covering it with a dressing and chest wrap.

Recovery After Male Breast Reduction
After your male breast reduction surgery, you may experience some swelling and discomfort, which can be controlled with medication that your doctor will prescribe for you. You'll need to wear an elastic pressure garment for at least two weeks, which will help to reduce swelling.
We advise most of our patients in the Toledo and Detroit area to refrain from heavy exercise, sexual activity or anything else that may risk a blow to the chest for a few weeks following the male breast reduction surgery. However, you should be able to return to work and resume normal daily activities within a few days, and you should begin walking around immediately after surgery. Your surgeon will remove the stitches after two weeks.
