Botox Cosmetic Treatment

Botox® is an injectable cosmetic treatment that causes muscles to relax, resulting in the reduction of wrinkles and fine lines for up to six months after treatment.

Botox injections use an active ingrediant that causes controlled weakening of the muscles, especially those in the face, for improved appearance and reduced lines and wrinkles. This lunchtime procedure is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the United States today.

What is Botox?

Botox is an FDA-approved wrinkle-relaxing injectable. Botox’s active ingredient is a form of botulinum toxin that is safe and approved for cosmetic use. Botox is what is known as a neuromodulator, meaning it safely and temporarily relaxes the muscles holding unwanted wrinkles in place. Injections of Botox work by blocking signals sent from the nerves to the muscles so that the muscles are no longer able to contract. A quick, targeted injection of Botox will smooth away forehead lines, glabellar lines, crow’s feet, and smile lines for four to six months.

Why is Botox one of the top anti-aging solutions in the world? It works! Results from Botox look flattering and natural. You will look more alert and refreshed, but no one will be able to tell why!

Is Botox Right for Me?

Botox Candidacy

Botox is often chosen by patients between the ages of 30 and 65 who are starting to see the visible signs of aging, such as the development of lines and wrinkles in their face. Most adults who are over eighteen and in good overall health are able to undergo Botox injections. In order to see best results from Botox, patients should have healthy skin laxity.

Ideal candidates for Botox are those who look forward to the results of the treatment, but who still have realistic expectations for what the procedure can achieve. If you are currently experiencing a skin irritation in the desired treatment area, you will need to wait for your issue to resolve before undergoing Botox. If you have thicker skin or regularly experience eye ptosis, notify your injector. These conditions need to be taken into consideration when determining candidacy for Botox.

If you look more fatigued or aged than you used to, Botox is an excellent, convenient way to rejuvenate your appearance. This treatment is often used as an alternative to invasive cosmetic surgeries, such as facelifts and brow lifts. It can also be used to enhance the results of such procedures. Because it works by relaxing underlying muscles, this injectable treatment will not affect lines caused by sun exposure, gravity, or the loss of skin elasticity. Wrinkles that form due to loss of skin volume can be addressed with volumizing dermal fillers. If skin laxity has developed to a certain degree, a non-invasive skin tightening treatment like ultherapy is a convenient way to tighten and remodel your loose skin for a younger, smoother appearance.

Dermal Fillers: The Perfect Compliment

Botox is the perfect solution to dynamic wrinkles, or the wrinkles that form as a result of muscles overfiring. Examples of dynamic wrinkles include smile lines, horizontal forehead lines, and the “elevenses” that form vertically between the eyebrows, also known as glabellar lines.

Dynamic wrinkles form when repeated or extended muscle-use holds a wrinkle in place, even when patients are no longer frowning or smiling.

Aging, of course, doesn’t stop there: in addition to use-related wrinkles, time and volume loss leads to Static Wrinkles. Static wrinkles form as the body slows down its production of collagen and hyaluronic acid, an inevitable effect of aging. Without the support of the collagen and nourishing power of hyaluronic acid, the skin can begin to sag and thin, leading to the formation of static wrinkles. Static wrinkles are addressable with dermal fillers.

Dermal fillers erase static wrinkles by restoring lost facial volume for a year or more.

Dermal fillers like Juvederm, Radiesse, Belotero, and Sculptra are designed to jumpstart your body’s production of collagen and restore long-lasting, youthful volume to the targeted area. The renewed skin volume effectively fills in static wrinkles, restoring smoother, healthier skin contours for months. Dermal Fillers will address marionette lines, nasolabial folds, laugh lines, and frown lines. If you have lost facial volume, live in fear of or have already developed vertical lines along your nose or mouth, or desire fuller lips, dermal fillers are convenient anti-aging options.

Preparation

In order to see your best results from Botox, discontinue use of blood-thinning medications and supplements like NSAIDS (ibuprofen, Advil), St. John’s Wort, fish oil, vitamin E, or Ginkgo biloba for the week leading up to your session. Avoid drinking alcohol for seven days prior to treatment with Botox.

Treatment Details

Botox injections can be done in your doctor’s office and take less than an hour. No anesthesia is required. During Botox injections, a fine needle injects a diluted solution of botulism toxin into the targeted muscle. This solution causes the muscle to temporarily weaken, smoothing the skin over the muscle.

Many patients decide to receive Botox and Dermal Fillers during the same session.

Like Botox, dermal fillers are quick to administer and comfortable to receive. If you have wrinkles and lines in multiple areas of your face, Botox combined with Dermal Fillers can achieve full-face rejuvenation: the results are comparable to a mini facelift!

Once your Botox session is complete, you will be free to return to your day. No downtime is required after Botox!

Recovery After Botox

Botox is often called a “lunchtime procedure” because patients can return to their daily activities immediately. The injections do not require bandages, and most patients do not take more than an hour or two away from daily obligations.

Wait at least four hours before exercising or lying down following your Botox injection. Avoid hot showers and baths for at least 24 hours. If you wish to apply makeup, do so without pulling or massaging the skin. Makeup can be applied as normal after 24 hours.

Results

Botox Results

The effects of Botox will develop over the three to seven days following your procedure. Within a week, your targeted muscles will relax. Skin will be smooth and rejuvenated after Botox!

Patients are usually able to see the effects of Botox in their wrinkles and fine lines for four to six months. Gradually, the muscles regain the ability to contract, and wrinkles start to reappear. Many patients opt for additional Botox treatments spaced about six months apart to maintain their facial appearance. In as little as fifteen minutes, patients can keep facial aging at bay and look their best, thanks to Botox.

Botox not only erases dynamic wrinkles, but it also has the added benefit of slowing future aging! By keeping the skin in the targeted area relaxed, Botox will keep skin supported and smooth, thereby preventing the formation of new wrinkles.

You don’t have to live with fine lines and wrinkles: Botox makes it easy to stay youthful for the long-term! If you are looking for a convenient anti-aging solution, consider Botox.

Aging affects every patient differently. Some patients decide to receive Botox as early as their 20s.
