Radiesse® is an injectable cosmetic filler formulated to fill in deep wrinkles and folds in the skin. Formerly known as Radiance, Radiesse provides a structure onto which your body builds collagen to fill in the skin from the outside.

Collagen is your body’s natural way to provide skin volume, strength, and flexibility. As the body ages, collagen is lost, and the skin sags into wrinkles and lines.

Is Radiesse Right for Me?

Radiesse is most often chosen by patients between the ages of 30 and 65 who are starting to see the visible signs of aging in their face. Most frequently used to treat the deep lines running from the nose to the corners of the mouth, Radiesse injections will also increase the volume of the cheeks, lips, or chin and add volume to the hands. Radiesse is considered a large-volume filler, making it ideal for areas in which a significant amount of volume has been lost during the aging process.

Most adults in good overall health are able to undergo Radiesse treatments. This FDA-approved dermal filler is one of the longest-lasting injectable fillers available.

Procedure Details

The Radiesse solution contains calcium-based spheres suspended in a gel. After this solution is injected into the targeted area of skin, the body produces collagen that fills in the area around each sphere. Gradually, the skin becomes firmer and smoother as its structure is improved. Radiesse also results in immediate skin volume improvement as the gel itself fills in this missing volume.

The injection of Radiesse can be done in your doctor’s office in half an hour or less. First, lidocaine or a numbing cream is used to numb the skin, making this procedure painless. Then, a fine needle delivers the Radiesse solution into the targeted tissue. Several injections are typically needed, depending on the size of the treatment area. Afterwards, patients are able to leave the office immediately.

Recovery After Radiesse

After Radiesse, patients can return to their normal daily activities immediately, with no downtime. During the first few days, you should avoid activities requiring extensive movement of facial muscles, which can displace the injected solution.

Because Radiesse prompts the body to increase collagen production, the results of this procedure last long after the solution itself has been absorbed by the body.
