Not everyone is born with a perfect body. And while you’ll hear that “beauty is only skin deep” or “it’s what’s on the inside that counts,” there’s nothing wrong or shameful about wanting to enhance your physical appearance. Women often turn to breast augmentation for any number of reasons and that definitely includes increased self-esteem and self-confidence.
Contrary to what some might think, breast augmentation is not just a procedure for those women who want extremely large breasts. In actual fact, breast augmentation is frequently chosen by flat-chested women, or women who feel that their breasts are too small for their figure, and they are only seeking to have normal, natural-looking breasts.
Dr. Gupta will work with you to discuss your options and make sure you get the look you’ve always wanted for your bustline.
A Brief Description of Breast Augmentation
A breast augmentation is a surgical procedure performed by a plastic surgeon to enhance the size of the breasts. Also known as augmentation mammoplasty, breast enlargement, or more casually as a “boob job,” this procedure involves the insertion of silicone or saline implants into the chest in order to increase the size of the breasts. Breast augmentations are one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries performed in the United States today, and Dr. Gupta is an experienced plastic surgeon who you can trust to do an excellent job with your procedure.

Breast Augmentation Procedure Details
During your consultation, one of the first major steps of getting a breast augmentation in Toledo with Dr. Gupta is selecting the right type, size, and shape of the breast implants you’ll receive. Dr. Gupta will discuss these choices with you before scheduling your surgery, as there are advantages to both saline and silicone breast implants. Thus it is important to choose the right implant size to achieve your desired breast size and shape. Many patients find it helpful to view breast augmentation before and after photos when determining the right implants for their procedure.
The breast augmentation surgery uses general anesthesia and takes about two hours. First, Dr. Gupta creates incisions one to three inches long, usually in the armpit, belly button, skin fold under the breasts, or around the areola. The incision size can vary depending on the type and size of implant being used. The implants are then positioned in the chest, either above or below the chest muscle. Once the implants have been moved into a natural position, sutures are used to hold the incisions closed.

Is a Breast Augmentation Right for Me?
Breast augmentation is intended for adult women who are in good overall health and are unhappy with the current size or shape of their breasts. Although it is possible to perform breast augmentation on teenagers, most are advised to wait until they are adults, as it is very common that the breasts are still growing.
While typically chosen for cosmetic reasons, breast augmentation is also available as an option following a mastectomy, or during sex reassignment surgery. It can also be a popular choice to increase breast volume following pregnancy, significant weight loss, or aging, all of which can cause the breasts to lose volume or sag.
But regardless of the reasons, the most important stipulations for women pursuing an interest in breast augmentation are that they be in good physical health. The procedure is a form of surgery, after all, and it will require some recovery and recuperation time, which is best not to be complicated by the introduction of other health issues.
Recovery After Breast Augmentation Surgery
After breast enlargement, most patients take about a week away from work, although strenuous exercise should be avoided for six weeks.
It is important to wear surgical dressings as required by the surgeon to minimize these symptoms. It is important for patients to understand that breast implants are not meant to be permanent. After ten to twenty years, the implant will need to be replaced. In addition, some women choose to undergo breast implant revision surgeries to further enhance the appearance of the breasts as they continue to age naturally.
