What is Obalon?

The Obalon treatment system is an innovative weight loss program that is designed to help you meet your weight loss goals. This treatment requires no surgical procedures or lengthy recovery times, making it a fast, easy, and simple solution to losing troublesome weight.

The Obalon Balloon System is FDA approved for safe and effective weight loss.

How Does It Work?

The Obalon Balloon Capsule allows you to lose a significant amount of weight under medical guidance.

This treatment is a device-assisted diet and exercise system that helps to curb your appetite and prevent overeating. The Balloons do so but taking up room in your stomach, which in turn makes you feel full when eating small portions of food.

The Balloon will remain in the stomach for about six months, after which it will be extracted, but the nutritional and exercise support will continue until the 12-month program is complete. This treatment has been tested in many clinical trials, showing highly effective weight loss results for those who were at a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 27 or higher. On average, we have seen our Obalon patients lose 15 lbs or more, some even losing up to 50 lbs during a 12 week period. This treatment has also reported lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Benefits of Obalon Weight Loss

Unlike bariatric surgery, the Obalon Balloon requires no sedation or surgical procedures for its placement. You will simply swallow a small capsule with a glass of water. The balloon is then inflated with gas which weighs significantly less than saline solution, which is used with other types of gastric balloons. With the Obalon Balloon, patients have reported less discomfort and fewer side-effects, if any at all. Additionally, the Obalon weight loss program has a number of benefits that it provides, including:

  • An option for those who want to avoid or are not qualified for weight loss surgery
  • Fully reversible
  • Twice as effective as diet and exercise alone
  • Quick in-office placement
  • Little to no downtime
  • Long-lasting results
  • Changing lifestyle and dietary habits
  • Improved self-esteem
  • Learning portion control when eating

Obalon vs. Orbera

Both Obalon and Orbera offer gastric balloons for clinically assisted weight loss. The main difference between the two is the Orbera is a single gastric balloon that is filled with a saline solution after being placed in the stomach and the Obalon, on the other hand, utilizes three smaller balloons that are filled with gas for a lighter, more comfortable feel. The process of the Orbera balloon takes about 20 minutes in total and will remain in the stomach for several months. With Obalon, the balloons will be inserted several months apart from each other, totaling to a full six months before being removed.

Through gastric balloons, you are able to lose three times the weight that you would through diet and exercise alone. The Obalon balloon offers numerous benefits in comparison to other gastric balloons on the market today.
